Speech Marks (Grade 4)

Speech marks (Quotation Marks) are used to mark what somebody has said.

Put the speech marks at appropriate places in the following sentences:

  1. I want rice for lunch, said Jennifer.
  2. The teacher asked, would you like to go out to play?
  3. What time are you coming back? asked the mother.
  4. Miss Pearson asked, what causes rain?
  5. Hurray shouted the children.
  6. Can I borrow your book? asked Sophia.
  7. Come and take your sheets from the desk, told the teacher.
  8. Rachel asked me, is it raining heavily outside?
  9. Maria told her sister, it is not going to be easy to make it to top three positions.
  10. Where are my notes? asked Harry angrily.
  11. I’m not giving up hope, said Tom.
