Change the following to Indirect Speech:

 

  1. The tourist asked, “Can you tell me the way to the nearest restaurant?” “Yes”, said the child, “There is one a kilometer away from here but if you want to stay for the night, there is a good hotel too.” “No”, said the tourist, “I only want a meal.”
  2. “Who are you?” asked the angel. “I am Surkhi the Jackal”, said the upset jackal, “I live in this forest but I am lonely; I have no friends with whom I can talk, play and share my joys.”
  3. “What are you doing, mother?” said Neha. The mother replied, “I am sewing a new dress for you. Do you like it?” Neha said, “Wow! It looks so pretty. Can I help you with something?”
  4. The father said, “I am really worried for you, Jack.” Jack replied, “Cheer up, father. I’m smart and clever. I’ll go out next week and find work somewhere.”
  5. The students came to the teacher’s cabin and said, “We are sorry for our behavior.” The teacher said, “I do not wish to see any of you. Go away.”

Answers:

1) The tourist asked the child if he could tell him the way to the nearest restaurant. The child replied that he could and told that there was one a kilometer away from there but if he wanted to stay for the night, there was a good hotel too. The tourist replied in negative and told that he only wanted a meal.

2) The angel asked who he was. The upset jackal replied that he was Surkhi the Jackal. He told that he lived in that forest but he was lonely and he had no friends with whom he could talk, play and share his joys.

3) Neha asked her mother what she was doing. The mother replied that she was sewing a new dress for her and asked if she liked it. Neha told with joy that it looked very pretty and asked if she could help her with something.

4) The father told Jack that he was really worried for him. Jack asked his father to cheer up and told that he was smart and clever; he would go out the following week and find work somewhere.

5) The students came to the teacher’s cabin and said that they were sorry for their behavior. The teacher said that he did not wish to see any of them and ordered them to go away.
