Use of Past Tense

Use of Past Tense

Which ones of the following do you think are correct?

* I didn’t said that.
* Why didn’t you called me?
* Did you got my mail?
* You didn’t taught him a lesson. You should have.
* I didn’t gave him anything.

These are common utterances you often get to hear around yourself; you might be saying them too. But none of the above is correct.

While using the past form you have to be careful about the fact that the helping verb ( do ),if used, takes the past form and not the main verb. So the correct statements will be:

* I didn’t say that.
* Why didn’t you call me?
* Did you get my mail?
* You didn’t teach him a lesson. You should have.
* I didn’t give him anything.

Next time you use these statements or the verbs in any other statement, make a conscious effort of using them correctly.
Just five statements to begin with!!
Good luck!!
