Observe the following statements:
* Your e- mail do not have the clear information.
* She seem to have got bad mood today.
* She and her husband has taken the right decision.
Found anything wrong with the statements?
If not then here it is:
The subject-verb agreement is not there in these statements, so the statements are grammatically incorrect. To put it straight, the forms of verbs used in above statements are not appropriate. Let’s clarify it further.
The persons or things mentioned in the beginning of each of the statements are as follows:
* Your e-mail
* She
* She and her husband
These are the ‘subjects‘
Verbs following these ‘subjects’ are:
* do
* seem
* has
Now, subject- verb agreement rule says that:
Singular (one in number) subject follows verb+s/singular form of verb ( is,has..)
Plural (many in number) subject follows verb/ plural form of verb ( are,have..)
So, statements should have the following beginnings:
* Your e-mail (singular) does
* She (singular) seems
* She and her husband (plural) have
Now try out the following statements:
* All of them ____(has/have) been enjoying the party.
* The furniture ____(is/are) old and ____(need/needs) to be replaced.
* She and her brother ____(love/loves) to play chess.
